Project Update…Westfield Master Suite

The next project for ah! Remodeling is a complete overhaul of a master suite in Westfield, Indiana.  The house was built in the late 70s, and while it has been maintained very well since then, it has not been updated.  The major problem with the master suite is the bath.  At a tiny 30 sqft, it’s not nearly up to the standards expected of a house in 2009.

The design plan is to take some room from an adjacent guest bedroom for a new master closet.  Once that is built, the wall between the current bathroom and closet will be removed, allowing for a bathroom more than double the current size.  We’ll add a 6′ soaking tub, a linen closet, a custom-built vanity, and completely re-finish the walls with a faux plaster finish and custom trim.

The project will take 3-4 weeks for total completion.

Project Summary….Nashville Hall Bath

The most recent project  for ah! Remodeling was a complete bathroom remodel of a lake house near Nashville, Indiana.  The bathroom was straight out of the 80s….carpet on the floor, old tile around the shower, blue wallpaper, a blue vanity, and a very old, inefficient toilet.  The customer, who uses the house as a vacation home and lives in the south, wanted to upgrade everything.

After going over options with the customer, the design plan was to replace the carpet with a 12×12 Offset-Brick pattern tile floor and use the same tile with a mosaic accent band in the shower.  A new, efficient Kohler toilet was to be installed along with a vanity shipped in from Texas, topped in granite, of course.  A recessed shower light, two pendent lights, and brushed nickel fixtures finished off the design.

The construction took a little over two weeks.  Demolition involved tearing down the walls of the shower surround (to ensure all water damage could be fixed), the ceiling, the carpet, and all fixtures.  Plumbing and electrical rough-ins took about a day, and drywall rough-in was a day after that.  Tiling the shower and floors took the most time, and once that was done, it was all down-hill.  The project was finished off with a coat  Home Depot Behr Paint and Primer All-In-One.

In the end, the bathroom came together very nicely.  The style selections made by the customer came together very well, and the bathroom will continue to function and look great for years to come.  Check out pictures of the project in the portfolio section.

Hello, World!

Hello, World!!

This is the first blog post for the ahhandy.com blog.  This site will be used to share information about projects we’re working on, specials we’re having, and hints to help you not need to call us (the accounting department doesn’t like that idea, but what do they know?).  Take a look around the site at www.ahhandy.com, and give us a call when you need some work done.

In the coming days, you’ll be seeing some posts about the company (who we are, why we’re the ones you should call when you have a home improvement issue, why Peyton Manning could beat Tom Brady in any sport at any time, etc.), posts about projects that I’ve done in the past, and (my favorite part) “Handy Andy’s Homeowner Awareness Hints” (also known as “Ah’s”).
